The mission of DFKI is to move innovations in Artificial Intelligence (AI) as quickly as possible from the forefront of science into the marketplace. Founded in 1988, today with 780 (410 staff) highly skilled people in sites in Saarbrücken, Kaiserslautern, Bremen and Berlin, DFKI is one of the largest non-profit contract research institutes in the field of innovative software technology based on AI methods. In SocialSensor, DFKI in Saarbrücken will be involved by the DFKI research group on Simulated Reality (SR) and the DFKI research group on Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) both of which being part of the DFKI research department “Agents and Simulated Reality” covering the areas of Visual Computing, Multiagent Systems, Semantics, Services, Security and Verification.

The core competencies and experiences of the MAS research group are research and development of intelligent agents and semantic technologies for various applications in the Internet of Services, Internet of Things, and the 3D-Internet. Particular focus is on (a) model-driven engineering of agent-based information systems and (b) semantic-enabled coordination of multimedia content and services for each of which we developed a wide range of systems, methods and tools. That includes means of intelligent search, selection, composition and negotiation of semantic services and process workflows. The core competencies and experiences of the SR research group are research and development in the field of three dimensional, real-time, high quality visualizations. Particular focus is on (a) native, interactive 3D graphics for the 3D Internet and the specification of XML3D, (b) Virtual Reality and especially interaction with and within virtual environments and (c) real-time Raytracing in many-core computing environments.
